Riding around Essex?
Discussion
I've been on some great road bike rides round Chelmsford - great driving too. Road routes tend to be low level rolling hills (i.e. fairly flat), tarmacs is a bit rough in places - you really feel the vibrations on a racing bike!
get an 1:50,000 map - you'll see a national cycle route going NW towards Bishops Stortford / Stanstead ... follow it into the countryside then make your own loop back. Lovely rolling countryside. Pretty much limitless road rides I would say...
Mountain biking is I think in short supply though. One of the woods has some jumps etc for mountain biking, but I have never been so can not confirm the quality. Very few bridleways.
