Probably the only Klein I don't really like the look of. Sure it rides good, tohugh.
Fraid they are weird as buggery to ride, I rode one once, and it was the nearesy I'v ever come to a full suspension that mimiced the GT RTS's and LTS's in there tendancy to 'push up' under power.
Supposedly a trait that XCers wanted at the time, however it never really caught on.
IMHO Kliens never really caught on as they were a little too leftfield (anyone remember Mission Control combined bars, stem and forks?). They cost the earth, and no matter how trick they looked, there were better frames out there for the money.
With risk of offending certain people, (older - pre Trek) Kliens were brought by the sorts of people who like to show off rather than ride.
Still, that bike was a fappin' bargain!
OK.. self confessed Klein lover here.
They always were very expensive bikes and had some wild and wacky ideas that made them hard to service. Ie Oversized steerer tube, combined stem/bars, pressed BB bearings and headsets for the oversized steerer tube. But what the hell...TVR are also quirky but we love them all the same. Actually thats a good parallel... cool design, small niche market, wierd paintjobs etc.. etc..
But I love them.. especially the fade paint jobs they made in the early 90s, along with the darty handling that made them so good up technical climbs. But the stiff frames did kill your lower back..a true race bike. Which is why I have several of the dam things
Then the bastrads sold out to the man and Trek ruined the brand.
I am actually thinking of building a Pace 303 frame up and selling my orange 5 as I cant seem to get along with poncy full-sussers. Yes, I am going all beardy as I want a hardtail that you need to think with instead of bulldozing across everything.
My latest project.. a NOS Klein Rascal from 1993 that I found in a dusty bike store outside Miami..thumbies, biopace and cantilevers...faaar out dude!!
