Will a large frame be ok for me at 6ft3 for a Specialized FSR Comp? They also do an XLarge, but thinking this might be a bit of overkill. Haven't got time to get to a shop to try them out as buying through a friend who can get me one at cost.

Any ideas people? Anyone got a Spesh who's >6ft?

I ride a hard tail stumpjumper - 19". I'm 6ft 3. Very nice fit. I've been told a 'Large' Epic would be the size for me.

Go to Specialized web site and select the model you are considering, you will see a 'geometry' option at the bottom of the page - this will show you the dimensions of the different sizes. Benchmark it to your current bike to get a feel.

I've got a Hardrock 19" and I'm just over 6ft, seems like a good fit to me.

I'm just under 6', and have an FSR in Medium. That's right on the border line of being a little small. There is plenty of seat post in the frame however, and it is a great ride.

I think at 6'3", a large would be spot on for you. XL is overkill really unless you are a complete giant.

I have a Spesh. FSR Pro in L. I am 6'1". Fits like a glove. Test rode a medium (for a day) and while it was ok for a test, it was defo too small as a long term proposition. I think you will be fine with a L. I always think get the smallest frame you can possibly get away with, makes handling a hell of a lot easier.

large will be fine. As already said above, avoid xl unless you have been medically certified a giant.

For reference, hardtails are generally sized 13, 15, 17, 19, 21, and suspension frames s, m, l, xl, medium being the same size as a 17'' hardtail.

The suspensions frames arent measured in inches because of all the different interupted seattubes etc ,and the higher BB's. But thats the equivalent.

1'm 5ft 10, and would always go for med/17".

Advice would always be to err on the smaller of two sizes, especially if your not a confident rider. More room for 'manouvre'.

I'm 6'2" and have just got myself a large '07 Stumpjumper FSR Expert. Fits me perfectly, so I'd also suggest you go for the large. XL would be overkill IMHO...

Steve.

I'm 6' on the nose and have a 2007 Stumpjumper FSR Comp in a medium, it fits just right, so a large should be bang on for you

What do you think of the FSR Expert. I had one on loan the weekend. My usual route is about 19 miles of which 10 is road. I felt it was a little slow on the road, but that could have been down to the bike being way too small for me. It was a medium and I'm 6'2". Plus the wheels didn't spin very well. But the bike was awesome down the single track. I've never been so fast.
Do you find it bobs a bit on the climbs ?
I wan't to order my new bike in the next couple of weeks but am now torn between the Kona "The King" (faster on the road, but slower on the rougher single track) or the FSR Expert (slower on the road, but kin quick on the single track).

Sorry for the slight thread hi-jack. thumbup

Hi Mat

Instead of dumping the bikes in our cars to get to our local trails, we would just rather cycle there. Its keeps us fit as its a good 200 meter road climb just to get us to the foot of the trails.
We do intend in driving out to some different trails, so the Stumpy would be ideal for that. But 90% of the time it will be my local trails. Another bike I haven't looked at yet, is the Scott Genius 30. At least the rear can be fully locked out on that. It also has 5" of travel like the Stumpy.
Decisions, decisions.
