The other week i got about 6 or 7 small thorn in the space of about 20 minutes. Admittedly, i was riding along the canal path, where the bushes had recently been cut, leaving lots of thorns on the path itself. I have standard Specialized tyres which came with the bike, plus i have now just purchased some new tubes with the slime in there. Is there anything else i could buy in the way of tyres/tubes to reduce punctures from tree thorns? Can i put tubeless tyres on my Alexi rims?

If you are planning to ride along a track coated with natures stingers, then there is only so much that you can do more than your slimed tubes.

you should be able to find some tubeless for them, i would be more incline to get some thickset tyres if it suits your riding? failing that, just wheelie everywhere? aleast if you get a punchture it'll only be one the one wheel.

I find it's a very careful balance of enough tyre pressure to prevent pinch punctures but not so much that the tyre is very hard. That and bunnyhopping over particularly prickly stuff

You can buy roles of kevlar to go between the tyre and tube. Seems to be working for my old man.

A good pair of tyres will also help.

Another option is Downhill inner tubes. These weigh more than normal tubes as they are roughly 3mm + thick but even the most determined thorns will get through these.

I'm interested in these Kevlar rolls. Anyone know where I can get it?

Panaracer Flataway.

This anti-puncture shield is placed between your tyre and inner tube. It is produced from Kevlar fibres that are spun together to produce a bullet-proof vest type shield for your tyres. Flataway is light and supple.

Wiggle

It's 10 pound...per tyre.

My Father recommends it and hasn't had a puncture since.
