Hi Guys

Came off my MTB this afternoon and I'm sitting here with five stitches in my chin. Does anyone know a make / model of cycling helmet that has chin guard? I've spent a couple of hours on the Internet and can't find any. Most of the photos don't show the chin strap at all.

Cheers
Phil

Hadn't looked hard enough. Just found the MET Parachute on Wiggle which looks the part.

Rather than getting a chin strap, go for a full face type? if your going to do the type of riding that requires 5 stiches! then you'll protect the whole of your nogging rather than just your chin.
Cause you know that if you get a chin strap then you'll be having 5 stiches in your cheek next week!

Not sure if they still make it, but I had a Giro Switchblade which was an open face helmet with a removeable chin guard.

Problem with full faces is for XC use they're overkill, so something like the Parachute or Switchblade would be perfect.

Hi Guys

I don't fancy a full face lid as I don't do serious XC riding. The Parachute looks like a nice compromise. The Giro Switchback looked better and a bit more substantial but is discontinued unfortunately. Think I'll go shopping for the MET this weekend.

Hello

Have a look at these..

www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=10718 Check out the reviews on the page.

There are rumours that the MET can shatter on impact.

I'm waiting for the chin guard to arrive for my Viper any day now. Very nice lid, looks a lot better in the flesh!

Cheers

Hi Ian

I read through the reviews last night. Makes for interesting reading, and certainly looks stronger than the parachute. Do you need tools to connect/disconnect the chin guard?

Hi Phil

It detaches in seconds, with the clips on either side. Here's the review that made my mind up.

http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php

Got mine off ebay from Germany but they forgot to include the chinguard!!!

I needed something to give me more confidence on the rocky downhill stuff in Wales.I can then remove the chinguard for climbing/cross country stuff.

After my big off on Saturday, may well end up leaving it on!

Hope this helps.

Cheers

I hadn't seen that review. Casco looks better and better.

Tell us about Saturday's big off. Any injuries?

V.lucky..

On a series of step downs got caught out and went over the bars.. laugh
Had a good flow over the steps but one had been washed out by the recent bad weather and was twice as deep as the rest. The front wheel stopped in a hole and I cleared the next two steps (each step 3ft wide), off the bike and landed on the third! The edges had scaffold board faces if I had landed on those......... eek

Got a fantastic collection of sunset coloured bruises for my efforts though.

Sounds like you had a good moment as well?

Does make you think doesn't it?

Ouch! Sounds nasty. I don't mind falling, but I do hate going over the bars.

I can't wait to get back out there this weekend. Have to get back on the horse and all that. The weather's looking favourable. Hopefully they've filled your step back in .

I also need to take a box of chocs to the girls in the cafe at Mugdock who were so kind; gave me free tea while I waited for my missus to come get me.
