Normally ride a rockhopper...but have been looking at road bikes for a couple of months. One of these has come up in my local shop - 2nd hand (2006) - I think it is the basic model (Carbon forks..) - very little use. Shop owner asking around £400.

Assuming it 'fits' seems like a a reasonable deal..

Any thoughts on either the bike itself, or price?

Cheers

Dont know a great deal about road bikes but i do know that you can get them new for about that price. My LBS had one recently and Evans cycles always have deals on.
Just my 2p's worth.

What will the bike be used for?

£400 does sound a lot for a second year old bike even if the use is marginal. I boought a 2007 Sirrus Elite for 90% of the RRP from a authourised dealer.

Have you another dealer near you to have see what deal they could do for you?

For comparison, a new 2007 model is £500. The frame and the wheels have improved this year so it's a better bike.

I would pay the extra for a new one or try to get the secondhand one for £350, assuming it's in your size and in good nick!

I have the 2007 Allez Sport (same bike but upgraded components) and it's a great bike

Had a look around, and will be going for a new bike instead...also frame was one size too small - felt all 'scrunched up'.
Now just have to choose which bike is best for around £500....choices...choices!
