I cycle a dawes super galaxy 531

Used it for five years to take me on my seven mile long trip to uni and back.

and today the down tube rusted trough! weeping my bike is dead. Being truly skint can't afford another one like that!

its aluminum would need new down pipe and head pipe. I was quoted £250 to fix it and I don't know the condition of the rest of the frame. so I don't know if I fix it if it will be as good as before.

Erm...

A - Pretty sure that super galaxy 531 stands for 531 series reynolds steel
B - Aluminium can't 'rust through'

Answer - buy a new, or used frame, swap bits over?

I stand corrected! I've always assumed.

The metal has "fractured" for want of a better description maybe rust isn't entirely to blame the frame is very old. was thinking of getting a second hand frame just didn't want to buy the same problem.

And I'm itching for something diffrent.

Who quoted £250? just had a look and these guys (who I take it are rather good) www.argoscycles.com/ charge £85, maybe a bit more for 531, but not that much surely?

If you went with a new frame, how would you want it to be different out of interest?

I've come across lighter frames than mine. I'm a little bit scared that the top bar will have sustained damage/stress when the bottom snapped.

The bike has been feeling old for a while it may have been because of this.

The back wheel is permanently buckled. Used to get it tuned. Fed up of this got a new wheel and it still buckles.

I’m just really fed up with writing dissertation probably after Friday and I’ll have a weekend off just get the bike fixed and I’ll be a lot more positive!

Gears on gibson street were very helpful when I got my groupset replaced on my zaskar, they were quite happy to give any advice I wanted and put on my groupset despite my buying it cheaper online.

I just picked up a Kona Fire Mountain on ebay for £200, its a 2005 that has never been used, if i can get a whole bike for that money, you should be able to get yourself a bloody good frame i'd say?
