...well, about 5 months ago my bike got knicked, locked up outside a pub in salford. Just riding back from work today and I spot 2 little chavs riding it! went over, made it very clear it was my bike and I was having it back now, and they just handed it over! i'm so happy now, i just wish they were a little older (they were probably about 11), and then i could have dished out my own justice without feeling too bad about it.

just thought I would share that with you!

Probably worth reporting it to the police and giving a description of the thieves.

They might only be stealing bikes now but in a lot of cases it will be anything that isn't bolted down.

Glad you got it back though.

Good news on the bike, Some little git tried riding off on mine once.. lucky that i could run bloody quick so managed to catch up with them. I grabbed hold of the handle bars and gave them a yank.. needless to say i had to get a respary and fix the front wheel. But the wonder of watching the theif smashing there face into the ground was enough for me!!

That was a couple of years baack, now.. i'm not so sure i'd be able to run.

Many years ago I had a wheel nicked off my bike from the garden shed, anyway I found out which scumbag did it and 'discovered' that he was visiting a certain place on the bike at a certain time so went by car to find him. As luck would have it I met him en-route on his bike (with my front wheel) about 7-8 miles from his home. The place was rural & very remote and happened to be by a small river. Both he, (after a couple of slaps), and his bike ended up in said river (but not my wheel)

Never did find out if he ever managed to 'retrieve' his bike....

A few years back when members went to the weekly meet of the cycling club on bikes, (yes, that long ago) a thief was discovered helping himself out the back of the club house. He ended up with his hands smashed by a couple of house bricks.

Brilliant! I love the other stories of justice over bike theives, cheers guys!

Wont be bothering the police, I know I should really but there is zero chance that anything would come of it.

I wish i'd hung around a bit longer and tried to find out myself where the little shits had got it from, but in the absolute ing ghetto where I live I thought I had better just count myself lucky and get out of there sharpish!

Right....off to build the old frame back up then thumbup

A few months back here at work, we had some thefts/attempted thefts of bikes locked up outside the offices (Central London, near tower bridge).

On the monday, one bike (rather nifty new full sus, high spec mtb) got nabbed and ridden off.

The toerags then came back again on the wednesday, cut through my cable, but got scared off before they had a chance to run away with the bike.

However, they had come back on the bike they had stolen on the monday, and got caught on the way to the nearest police station.

I was lucky that I only had the cable lock cut (now got a U lock, and a secondary one for the front wheel), and my colleague got his bike back in good nick.

The kids (who obviously should have been at school, but had better things to do) claimed that the mother had bought them the MTB for christmas, couldn't provide any receipts, but I think due to their age very little has been done.

But for once, the met were on the job.

I'd have still given them a ing good kicking. Was furious when my sub 5 got nicked. I was at uni at the time and it was the only thing in the world I owned of any value and I'd worked bloody hard to get it. I went down to the local skateparks in the hope of finding some chav lamely rolling the jumps on it, but sadly never did. I'd have ripped them limb from limb - livid doesn't begin to describe it.

I got my Scott reflex FX-15 knicked off my decking at the back of my house after a ride.

I got back sunny sunday, went in for a pee and when I came out, it had been replaced with a pink kids bike!!

I had only had it a week!! And the insurance wouldn't pay out!! Talk about livid, £1600 up the shoot!! I'd only ridden it twice!!

Still, I've now got n Scott RC 10 and I got both of them half price so I just pretend I paid retail for the RC. furious

Glad you caught your thieves. You must have a good soul!

I got my bike nicked when I was about 11, it was only a townsend but it was my P&J.

It got nicked from the area where my dad works and I went to school and one of my mates knew who took it so I got my dad and we went round to his house, but he wasnt in. His mum answered and appeared to be very embarrassed!

We left, went to the copshop and afterwards as I was waiting for my dad to lock up the business, along walks the scrote with my bike!

A few years later, said scrote is one of the worst criminals in the town and has been locked up for a good few years now, think he did something pretty nasty...

ETA - funnily enough though, having that bike nicked saved me from a lot of grief from said scrote, he thought it was funny that i had caught him and we shared a kind've begrudging acknowledgment from then on through high school. saved me from a beating actually!
