What is this boss for?

I am building my tt frame up, I'm actually nearly there on bits, just need some 10 speed ergo's and a cassette and it's done, but something has been bugging me for ages, there is a strange boss on the mechanism side of the rear triangle on the sloping down tube circa 10cm from the drop out, it is a handmade frame so likely was a request but I don't know what it is for, the design is best described as a metal mushroom, braised to the frame, it is about 8mm long and necks down in the middle as if something clips to or around it.

I did think of mudguards but A, there is only one on one side. B, who would spec mudguards on a TT frame?

Could it be a computer mount or pump?

It cannot be anything to do with the gear cable as that runs along the bottom of the triangle.

Hmmm not following, do you mean gear lever? if so your in the wrong place, rear drop out area not gear lever area. I'm looking at it now and it is really annoying me.

I know exactly what you mean, but haven't a clue what they're for. Had one on my Pashley trials frame for example!

It's a mushroom shaped bit that sticks out of the seatstay maybe 2 or 3 inches from the dropout on the mech side.

Think I have just twigged.

Its a chain hanger, to hang the chain on when whipping the wheel out in a race situation usually...
