I've had a bike in the garage for about 10 years, which I've used only once - nothing flash - just a Carera that I got from Halfords in a sale.

Today, I've decided to take up a new hobby and go biking (10 years late I know) - so dusted down the bike, and rode to Virginia Water (about 2 miles away) and rode around the lake 1 and half times (came out at a different exit) and rode the back-way home.

Now I really enjoyed it, and found it very relaxing, so now I'm thinking where else can I go?

I know I've got Swinley forest in Bracknell up the road, so I'll certainly give that a go - but are there any other place round about that I should consider?

I should stress that it's all purely leisurely and slow-paced at this stage.

Many thanks in advance,

K

You can ride much further into/around Windsor Great Park, rather than just around VW. It's very nice, especially if you are just cruising along.

For other local scenic rides, Richmond Park isn't bad, and as you say, Swinley is a wonderful location for mountain biking. This can be relatively easy on the firetrails, through to some pretty technical singletrack sections. However, there are no long downhill sections - just not enough altitude increase in that area.

Other local'ish' rides include the area around Leith Hill and Hombury Hill just outside Dorking, and I believe Queen Elizabeth country park down the A3 a bit.

Best of luck with it all m and glad to hear of another person who's getting back into biking.
