Looking for a bike (still)
Just wondering what difference Y frame/full suspension makes to riding? Worried about it making the riding harder, I mean, too hard ...

Full suspension generally makes the ride more comfortable, but the payoff is the bike will weigh more and thus make it harder up the hills.

There are various suspension designs which try to counter the above negatives so it really is a case of getting out and test riding to see what works.

Bikes are just as complicated as cars in the way they do things, so if you think Elise vs M5 vs Ferrari vs Atom... completely different cars, there's similar differences in bikes.

You'll soon have Neil waxing lyricals about Y Frames so I'll end here and get ready for his post! hehe

You could write a book on this question and you still would not come to a conclusion.

Basic question though before getting into the technicalities, when you say make riding harder, do you want to go as fast as you can or ride all day comfortably?

If it's less than £400 leave ANY full suspension alone. It will be heavy, crap and fail quickly at the pivot bushes.

Otherwise get a hardtail - any cheap full suss will NOT be fun.

My Y frame is something slightly different to what is peddled by many Halford branch, even though the design is much copied (but in steel usually...).

Di. Pop down to Phil Corley's in Milton Keynes. Or Leisure Lakes in Daventry. They're both pretty local to you (assuming you're still around these parts?) and will sort you out with something suitable.
