Helmet cams

I got a new camcorder for my birthday, in the hope of getting a helmetcam for it for christmas. But looking on some sites, I found that all helmet cams use AV in leads, and my camcorder doesnt have that I took the camera back and askd the geezer in Comet about it, he said it would work, and that I should try and get a firewire camera, as theyre better quality. Anybody know of any firwire helmet cams?! Because I'm damned if I can find any! I personally think he was feeding me a load of bovine manure about any camera working. I've also seen a wireless cam, the ATC2K Wireless Action Camera from www.mx1.co.uk I was told that lone cameras that use an SD card aren't as good quality, but an example vid on the net made me think otherwise. Advice would be greatly received, I want this camera for christmas

There may be an adaptor lead for your video cam, that turns the multi pin socket in to an av in.

Other than that I don't really know.

Bad news I'm afraid - all helmet cams require an a/v input.

Firewire (IEE1394 or DV in) is for your computer. So you can edit footage and put it back onto the camcorder.
Firewire is also a great way to connect your ipod to your computer. Music downloads really fast and I prefer it to USB for this purpose. Firewire cameras are better quality, your paying more money and so the specs are generally better. I'd take the camera back (as it's not suitable for the purpose described) and get a better model with a/v in. Helmet cams are around £120.

On another note...

I was recently surprised by my friends £200 Canon Ixus 55 digital camera.

The 30 fps(frames per second) mode works upto 640x480, there is also an action mode with 60fps.
(at a lower res of 320x240 though)

Myself and a few friends went for a ride and I captured some video clips and was impressed with the quality !

Although nothing beats a dedicated helmet cam, if you or a friend has a digital camera then check the video mode. You might be surprised!

Tip. Try to discover new features at the beginning of a ride, not at the end (like me).
This way you and your mates will have the energy to perform wheelies /manuals / stoppies for the camera.
When I found out it was too late, every one was tired !

thanks for all the help guys. in the end ive gone for a Samsung VP-X110L. its a hard drive sports camcorder,1gb internal memory (mem card option), and comes with a helmet cam and all the bits needed! ill put sm links of quality examples once ive got used to using it!
