Just had a reasonable-sized spill this morning - am now nursing two very bashed knees and bruising on my shoulder and arm.

However, because of the two big dents in my helmet, I'm not nursing any headache.

I'll cost me a few dollars for a new one, and I'll not be cycling for about two weeks, but considering what I did, I'm OK with that.

Anyone else grateful for their lid?

Despite being 19 my dad doesn't let me off our estate without one! And God help me if I'm caught! The discipline I do means I've to wear a helmet whenever I use a proper DH track, that and I fall off so often,I'd be daft not to wear one!
Long live the lid!!!

What make? Giro recently replaced my severely dented & cracked Xen for about 1/3 the shop price as it was under 3 years old. thumbup

Its a Met - looks like there are some hairline cracks behind the dents. Might try taking it to the shop and seeing if they'll give a discount, but in this country, its unlikely.

What Giro have you got - most people I ride with seem to have Giro, and I presume its for a reason.

Er, Xen - as mentioned above

Expensive, but well worth it IMO.

Good replacement policy, superb protection in an accident, very well ventilated, and stylish. The worlds top bike riders cant all be wrong. Had two massive spills both with Giro helments and im still here.

I have a Xen! I won it for having Star Letter in MBUK.

Mate just came off his bike this weekend - we were leaping over waterbars on a firetrail at about 30-40 kmh. He landed a bit skew, flicked left then right and the front wheel hit a rock. He proceeded to make like Superman, but without the getting higher bit, and hit another rock full bore with his lid.

Lid split, bit of a bruise to the forehead and a few bumps a scratches, but no concussion and generally fine.

Front wheel is toast - had to stand on the rim to bend it enough to go through the forks, but he rode it out. Gently.

Thankfully have never had to test the strengh of my lid. In addition to a helmet, I also find a good pair of gloves essential to my confidence now.
