AND a valve snapping off.

Whats the answer?

For most tyre designs you can buy two grades; cheap or expensive kevlar, which is far more impervious to punctures. Not sure about racers, but I rarely have trouble with Panaracer tubes on off road.

Michelin do a 700c with Kevlar (the Krylion) beading and a puncture resistant strip which admittedly feels nothing like a performance tyre but will keep you happy through the winter. Normally about £20 a throw.
If I were you I'd steer clear of the bargain ones; you only get what you pay for. There's no fun in saving £5 or so only to have kinks appear after a few days or feel like on every corner you're going to end up sat on the tarmac.

I'm tempting the puncture fairies with this post, but I've been (almost) puncture free for a few years now using Panaracer Pasela TG tyres on my regular ride (fixed gear road bike, 700x25c). Best tyres I've used in that respect, and they seem to last pretty well also.

Where's the "fingers crossed" smiley?

i've trained on the latest conti gp's and had good resistance to punctures. There is also the vittoria repair can you can spray inside the tube which slimes it and stops punctures.Again, its worked fine for me at 3000kms a month
