Quick q for anyone with experience of seperate insurance for theft:

How much, how good and does anyone bother?

I've on 11 year old dream bike, one 2 year old Freeride bike worth probably about £1500, and another worth say £700 - all are to be trussed up like Fort Knox soon, however I just wondered how much experience anyone else has of this sort of thing?

Cheers thumbup

I have home insurance with Churchill, who cover my bike for £1500 both locked up at home and when out. Some insurers wouldn't cover a bike over £1000 (Direct Line I think?) and others would not cover the bike when not in my garage, but when it is locked to the wall in my alarmed garage it is unlikely to be pinched!
To cover the bike I had to put it as a named item and pay an extra premium, I cannot remember how much exactly, but a figure of £75 rings a bell.
Sorry I cannot be more exact without looking at the policy at home.

I get mine covered by the house insurance. Covered at home or out 'n' about. Adds a fair bit to the monthly payment but its already been used twice (when in the flat) for MrsV6's bike that got nicked and then the replacement got stripped to a bare frame.

Marks & Spencer home insurance have a £4,000 single article limit and you don't have to specify what bikes you have when you take out the policy.
