Having been hunting for a early rigid OCLV frame for yonks now, I had my hearty set on one on Ebay which would have been perfect, looks fairly unuesd, and utterly original.

Now all I want it for was the frame really, so I set myself a budget and have put my bid in.

Lo and behold some tosser has come along and outbid me. I've emailed the chap early on so he knows I really want it, so I've a sneaky suspicion that he's got somebody to bump up the price for him.

Fine. He can keep his bike banghead

Anyhoo, can anyone recommend carbonb frames for me:

I know of the Giant, Gary Fisher and Trek rigid OCLV frames, lets have a list of what you think, and I shall hunt away.

Ultimately I could be swung by an uber light alu frame if someone can match the weight of a OCLV (2.88lbs)...

I assume you're "Bidder2". If so, "Bidder3" does look to be fairly serious, but is behaving like a bit of a numpty by putting in repeated tester bids to see how high you've set your limit. Not necessarily dubious, just inefficient; if he was prepared to pay over £400 he should have said so to start with or else try a last minute snipe.

Neil,

If you want a Carbon MTB frame that's driven by price, keep searching e-bay. You already have an experience of this. Cheaply built carbon frames look great from the outside but you will end up with problems. Warranty? I don't think so.

Being in the trade, I would recommend a SCOTT Scale Carbon frame. SCOTT's CR1 technology is still years ahead of it's competitors, they use the highest quality HMF Carbon Fibres, hand build each tube to within 1gm tolerance, and are the lightest by far. I would suggest looking for a frame through one of SCOTT's dealers, they may even have a deal on one of last years frames.

Cheers,
Ian.

Ian, what do you think of the s-works carbon frames? specifically the hard tail one.

Well I want one, problem being is that quite rightly they hold their value second hand.

Cho, The hard tail S-works frames are very good, slightly heavier than the SCOTT Scale Carbon frame, but pretty good quality.

There is a lot of misunderstanding around about different Carbon frame manufacturing. I can go into detail if required, but SCOTT are the industry benchmark as far as having the knowledge and leading technology of building the lightest, stiffest (where required) and strongest Carbon frames in the bicycle market.

There are some interesting independent lab tests which includes SCOTT Scale 10 (carbon frame) here: www.efbe.de/testergebnisse/fulltest/enindex.php

Cheers,
Ian.
