If you want a city commuting bike, halfords do the carrera subway bikes, the subway 1 is around £170 - see the other post today "new bike..."

I had a subway 8 for a couple of yrs and although i don't know much about bikes, i racked up 1200 or so miles over two years with no problems.

Ajit.

For £200 you should be able to get into the bottom end of the decent brand bikes, maybe a reduced last season bike or something similar. Then you are likely to get decent quality components and better reliability than alot of the flashier budget brand bikes avaliable for £200.

Carrera are somewhere in the middle- good value for money but not necessarily the compnent spec you'd get on, say a GT or Trek.

So yes, a decent bike can be had within that budget but nothing special. I started off with a £200 GT Timberline in 2000 and have added to it over the years to customise it to my riding style. Now not a single component is original.
