I got blown over on my MTB a few weeks ago - came to the bottom of a very steep off road decline (the sort where you skid the whole way down), came to a stop at the bottoom as I was about to turn left, feet still in the SPDs, sudden gust was enough to blow me into very thick brambles! Handlebars got stuck in and so I was wriggling to get out and really cut myself up! Then started raining and so my left arm and left leg were a lovely orangey red colour. Very macho.
If you're going off road, go. If you're thinking about a road ride I wouldn't personally. Setting aside the head wind which you'll be bound to find sooner or later, there's nothing worse imho that those unexpected gusts that can push you across the road. Not much fun when there's traffic about.
Well I did go out. It was windy as hell, also muddy as hell, and my bike (and backside and legs) got utterly filthy
Its fun pushing your way through thick gloopy mud, balancing the bike while the front wheel is pointing 10 degrees in the wrong direction
Was cold though, temperatures are dropping quickly now
