Removing my MTB cranks and pedal arms.
Discussion
I've bought some new pedal arms and cranks for my bike, and would appreciate some advice as the best way to remove the old ones without damaging anything.
My bottom bracket is the traditional square taper design.
I obviously appreciate that the allen bolt comes out, but what is the best way of getting the arms off without having to "get medeivel" on the bike and risk damaging something .... the old arms need to be kept for a mates bike.
Your advise is much appreciated.

You need to use a proper crank extractor tool but tbh it sounds like nipping tou your local bike shop would be a better plan.
What sort of cranks are the new ones? If they are Shimano's newish Hollowtech 2 types then you'll need to get the frame "faced" to make sure that the ends of the bottom bracket shell are completely parallel. This requires a special cutting tool that is not worth buying as a home tool really so is a bike shop job.
Any more advice, please ask
