Now that it's getting a little too dark to go riding when I get back from work, I need to invest in some lights. Not planning on any major single track stuff in the dark, but will be off road along some designated cycle paths and on road to get to them. Quite like the look of these:

as I like the idea of a spot beam for when I'm on the road and flood for off-road.

Anyone got any recommendations for this price range?

I'd be more inclined to get one of these:

Cateye EL530

Then a cheap charger and some 2000mAh or more batteries. Some places still have it's predecessor, the EL500, heavily discounted too.

My gripe with the cheap rechargeable sets is that they have non-smart chargers - you have to time how long it's left on charge for to prevent it overcharging, which is just a faff. The cheap lights all use sealed lead acid batteries too, which are heavy for their capacity.

I ended up going for some Cateye Tripleshots which are great - bought them from an ebay seller in US (look up "geargurl" ) , turned up a week later with no customs charges. They do Doubleshots about £100 delivered which would be an excellent choice for road and light off-road, nice small light battery, 5 hour battery life, and a proper smart charger.

Point taken on charging. Had many a laptop/mobile phone battery go duff.

Are these any good:

It describes them have having a "smart charger" which I guess is a good thing and I know NiMH batteries are much better than NiCads or lead acid.

i ran theese lights a couple of years back www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=1386

were actually very good, the 2.4w is perfect for in town and then the 10w was more than enough for the local woods
the battery was a bit of a problem for me tho as it didn't fit in a bottle cage and you had leads running the length of the bike.

between theese www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=8916 (is that a bottle cage fit battery)
or www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=5769 or www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=1656
