Grrr.

Tried to unclip this morning, and could not. Shoe twisted, but foot stayed in. Took shoe off and wiggled a bit, and shoe came off pedal. Leaving cleat in SPD.

Bugger. I assume it unscrewed itself, and I must use slightly longer bolts (new shoes).

Does anyone know how to dissassemble a SPD pedal to get a stuck cleat out?

If the threads are visible on the shoeplate (cleat) then just insert the correct size bolts, any will do, place them in a vice securely and twist the pedal to the side. The shoeplate should pop straight out.

And then use a touch of threadlock when re-attaching them to the shoe. Longer bolts might actually make things worse as either you'll not be able to tighten them properly or they'll cause your foot grief.

Good thinking and good thinking.

Will attempt both tricks. Once I find my spanners to remove the pedals.
