Any advice re what to wear?
I tend to get torn to shreads by brambles and stung by nettles. I have some long cycling lycra trouser, a cycling jacket from Decathlon in spain and some decent gloves from Halfwits. These should protect a bit from brambles but I am not sure I will be warm enough when it gets really cold. Any ideas what to buy? The first thing I am going to buy is a long sleeved tshirt made from breathable material.

Long fingered gloves as I find my hands can get very cold on a long ride as they don't move much. Last yeah I gave up with cycling gloves and wore winter wooly gloves.

Legs I don't find get very cold but I can find my chest and face getting cold as you blast down a hill, riding into the elements. I find my full face helmet helps slightly but it's not for cross country riding!

I've even been known to ride with a balaclarva on to help keep warm.

But as you say, a breathable jacket made from a gore-tex like fabric can help as it'll stop the wind battering your chest when riding.

My chest is the one place I seem to really notice the cold in winter.
Best bet seems to be a long sleeve top over bib-fronted shorts or leggings; the high front keeps the wind off your chest but doesn't get you too sweaty as your back and arms are still breathing ok.
