What makes it worth £1100 in the UK though? eek Ok it looks like it has decent XT running gear but there's no expensive fork or disc brakes to bump up the cost, just a good old "Classic" badge that seems to be a ticket to double the price on a lot of things these days

I really don't get it. When Specialized announced they were going to re-do the classic Stumpjumper (and at a hefty price like that) I was expecting them to make a box-fresh replica. Slapping XT cranks and an X0 mech on it, rather than something period (or at least as similar as possible to it) just isn't right.

I agree, its like Jaguar bringing out an E-Type "classic" replica then fitting it with 5 spoke alloys
I guess though you simply couldnt get "period" running gear without having to make it especially for the bike , in which case its going to be even more expensive to build and maintain, as well as not perform as well as current drivetrain technology.

What a pile of S**te. Sorry but Specialized is just a marketing company and that is cynical even for them.

More than that - to my eye that's running centre-pull brakes eek
If they've compromised on the drivetrain why not the brakes?

Atleast you wouldn't worry about leaving it locked up in town like you would with any other £1k bike. It'll blend in fairly well next to all the shoppers and hybrids.

Then again you could get alot more bike for £1k and not many people would really appreciate the retro coolness of it.

I may be being thick but it looks like a budget £99 mountain bike from 10 years ago?

Bizzare. I had a frame with that sort of geo back in the day - could wheelie forever on it.
