OK guys

My budget is around the 100 quid mark, as i want a light compact road helmet for road riding as well as using it for a bit of X country stuff....

Ive looked around and saw this on chainreacioncycles can anyone give me some advice on whether this would be suitable, obviuosly it would cover what i need but is there any disadvatages of having (to me) such a compact lid...

Also is there anything like this which is better value maybe cheaper? My requirements are based around looks and weight (sad i know) but i've had my current spaceship sized helmet for a number of years and always fancied the look of these

hehe I've been looking at that exact helmet today!

Basically its a road helmet. Nowt wrong with that for off-road but it doesn't have a peak. A mate has one and its sooooo light and comes with a nifty case to protect it.

The off-road equivalent is the E2 - www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=8589 which my mate also has... It's also 30 quid cheaper. Not 'as' light but still damn light.

Both are fantastic, can't really go wrong so which colour do you prefer?

Another vote here for the Atmos. I had a Giro Pneumo before and found that too hot for some of the tougher alpine climbs / Mont Ventoux etc. but rode La Marmotte in July wearing an Atmos and it's much more efficient at getting rid of heat build up. Didn't take it off all day.

I use a Pneumo - the Atmos just didn't feel £40 more comfy.

Pneumo is very noisy, though, anything above 20mph and it sounds like there's a car coming past the whole time.

I guess that's what you're paying the £40 extra for.....You don't know the Atmos is there in either noise, weight or head temperature!!

You could be onto something there...

I've just bought an E2 for XC. First ride with it planned on Tuesday so will post up my thoughts after that.

Went for that over the Atmos just for the peak tbh... not hugely keen on peakless helmets.

Rode with the E2 for the first time tonight.

Initial thoughts are very impressive. Very lightweight, barely know you're wearing it most of the time. Lots of adjustment in the rocloc (around head) and strap to get a firm fit.

Can't complain really

I dont know i could start a new trend, extreme road cycling.... saying that obviously being new i didnt really realise how real the danger is when decending yikes , i think you trick yourself into thinking that your not going that fast as theres no trees speeding past you.... but when you hit a bend in the road core dont you just know it!!!

I'm going to order the one in the link when i get paid, will let you know if its all that i hope it'll be

Just been out for an hour road ride and got smacked in the face by a huge leaf (which stings at 30ish mph...) and a bunch of flies. Could have done with my full face and goggles! hehe

I see so to make road riding “extreme” and so being able to use a full face helmet, you would need to comply with certain rules……. scratchchin

Interesting the first rule could be

1) Make sure there is a possibility that you may be smacked in the face with "huge leaves" (must be travelling at speed), also encounter of flies and / or other annoying insects must be hit on the route

And from me I would have to say,

2) Make sure that while on tight fast bends that the road is sufficiently gravely or filled with pot holes... (as to make you wish you hadnt attempted the route in the first place however extreme you or any of the bystanders believe this sport to be)

I wonder how I can make this an Olympic sport.... cool

(btw hope your ok, last week while out riding a bee or something nasty got on board in my helemt the first thing you want to do is rip the helemt off then you realise that your traveling at speed down a hill and hope to god that it doesnt get angery while in your helemt)
