My Cannondale MTB has developed a large crack in the rear wheel hub.

Would be grateful for any suggestions of a quality wheelbuilder in London or the SE.

Merlincycles.co.uk are a fantastic wheel builder with an excellent reputation for quality and value. Give them a buzz. It'll be mail order for you, but they are very prompt.

My current wheels are from Merlin, I gave them a try after I got hit by a car and snapped a rim clean in two....it was a good excuse to get some new wheels anyway! I agree with everything you say and would definitely use them again, 100% happy with both product and service thumbup

Ruxley Cycles in Orpington produce good handbuilt wheels.

Merlin cycles are good , as are Chain Reaction cycles (both mailorder ).

I recently split my rear rim ...

I replaced the rear wheel with an off-the-peg factory built Mavic CrossRide ( £67 IIRC ) - they are really good strong and light wheels , come with high strength flat spokes and a cartridge hub - most shops will sell them , or you could mailorder for about £60.

Merlin all the way. Absolutely spot on wheel builders. They lace them up strong but forgiving and in perfect balance. Cannot recommend them highly enough. As mentioned mail-order so no problem for location.

Paul.
