Probably you guys have covered this one about 1000 times before, but I am new to all this so be gentle with me!

Want a cycle computer and heart rate monitor thingy. Dont mind if I buy one device that does both or seperate ones. Could maybe even get something that works on my PDA if such a thing exists.

Just want something very basic to give me an idea of time, distance, heart rate, calories burned etc. Cheap and cheerful is fine as I am just starting out and if I keep it up I will get something much more decent when I get a better bike.

Any advice? Looked on ebay but TBH, didn;t realy know what I was looking at!

For cheap, you will have to go with two separate devices, a computer and a heart rate monitor. With computers, it seems you step up a notch for wireless (nice but not necessary, wired works fine), another notch if you want the cadence sensor (which I do recommend). Calories burned, watts, etc. are on the more expensive models, so forget those. Most basic computers give you max speed, avg. speed, current speed, time, trip distance, total distance, etc.

I have only been into all this for a couple of months, so I would also love to learn if there are reasonably priced devices that do all this and more.

If you can bear to set foot inside, Lidl/Aldi have had wireless bike computers inc a heart rate monitor for £12.99. I got one at the weekend, the computer seems to work fine, but I haven't tried out the heart rate monitor yet, but I figured for that price you can't go far wrong.

Yep I got one of the £12.99 Lidl ones about 3 weeks ago and it works a treat, both heartrate monitor and the usual computer functions.

Cadence is pedalling speed in rpm, a rev counter for your legs

Thanks for that, think I see why I want to know that.

Just went off to the Lidl site and no computer but I'll go in at the weekend. Seen some cool ones on ebay pretty cheap though so might start bidding.

Lidl had them as a special about 3 weeks ago so I dont think they generally re-stock once they are sold, although they might have them on special again at some point in the next few months as Ive seen offers repeated before like this. BT no they don't do cadence.

Looked on the website and none there but I'll check at the weekend. If not, off to ebay with me I guess.
