Opinions on a Giant Escape M1 2006 Bike

I am thinking of commuting on bike through the streets of London town. Will be about a 15 mile round trip, in to central london.

Last time i had a bike, the choice was BMX, mountain or racer.

I have a tendency to try and future-proof purchases so end up with way too high a spec and cost.

Soooooo, i am looking at a Giant M1 2006 bike specifically for urban travel and would appreciate opinions.
