Android tracker (airtag equivilent)
Discussion
I try to minimise my theft risk as best possible. But there's obviously nothing really stopping me being mugged by scrotes when I'm actually riding it.
Thinking of getting an air tag type thingy and bunging it in the frame. I dont use Apple products, a friend (who doesn't ride) mentioned Chipolo. They arent expensive. And have a replaceable battery. But I daresay a 90metre range is largely pointless as any muggers are unlikely to hang around!
Anything on the market that is actually likely to be useful in helping the Police locate the bike if they move quickly enough? Not expecting car tracker levels of coverage!

I am not a scrote, honest...... but/and:
Apple tags are probably on the radar of your average ne'er do well
I am an android fan boy and have an app on my phone to alert me of unaccompanied apple tags in my vicinity
During a coffee stop last week it thought I was being stalked however it was a tag on my mates bike which was just out of the range of his phone but within coverage of mine. So apple tags in theory can be rumbled
On the other hand I have some Tile tags as described above
Initially I was a bit hacked off that they rely on android users having the tile app installed however this is potentially a win as your average thief is unlikely to know this so you have more chance of it being undetected unlike airtags. The apple tags are visible to anyone with an iphone by contrast
In practice I have only ever used the Tiles when on holiday to check they are either on the plane or have arrived at our destination. Despite the much lower uptake compared to the apple airtag I have always been able to see they have arrived at our destination and they have the advantage of being much less easy to track as descrbed above
If youre really paranoid youd hide one of each on your bike
Chipolo, Motorola and Pebblebee (and others) all have tags that work with the Android Find network, which is the equivalent of Apple's airtag, so any Android phone on the network in the vicinity will pick them up and relay it's location.
Someone on here makes bike mounts for the Chipolo tags. The Motorola ones are the same dimensions as an Airtag so will fit in any mount designed for one of those. I've got a Chipolo tag inside the frame on one of my bikes, and a Moto one in the bottom of the fork steerer on the other. Maybe they'd find it if the bike was pinched, maybe not, but it might help get it back should the worst happen..

Glad you posted. I was looking at the Tile "pro" device. But the lack of compatibility to the find network blows that out the water!Someone on here makes bike mounts for the Chipolo tags. Chipolo it is then. Thanks everyone
As for getting the bike back, whilst that's obviously the main point. It might be nice for the Police to also find the scrotes with it and nick them!
Not sure I want a bike mount to have the tag visible at all. SO bike mounts in seats are less desireable
The Moto ones are slightly smaller than the Chipolo ones (but also slightly chubbier).
Depending on what forks you have, it may be possible to conceal it in the bottom of the steerer tube on the forks. There's a 3Dprintable model available for airtag sized devices available for Fox suspension forks. Other than that there's various under bottle cage mounts etc, or if you can stash it in a tube inside the frame that works as well (but may block the signal a bit).
