Hello all,

I'm looking to get a gravel bike for commuting and weekend use, long story short, has anyone experienced the ali express carbon gravel bikes?

I'm not looking to spend vast amounts and tbh, a carbon frame will be lost on me but for the price vs European brands, kinda makes sense.

I also live in Germany and the 2nd hand market on ebay isn't the same as UK regarding choice. Also, don't really want to spend alot as bike crime in frankfurt is stupidly high.

I remember reading that decathlon was doing some decent bikes, think it was van rysel(?) But over my budget for what I want.

Also, I can't bring over my hard tail as the pedals won't come off

Thanks

You can get some decent frames if you do your research, but as to complete bikes, I just don’t trust the components they fit.

Carbon is pretty dangerous if not done right and even the big mainstream brands have managed to sell really flawed stuff.

I’d upgrade to Decathlon, it will have better residuals too.

OK thanks,

I've relooked on ebay.de and more gravel bikes popped up, so like you said, easier just to get one of those.

Just go down to Decathlon in Dreieich Sprendlingen and see if they have a cheap gravel bike in your size.

My son has a bottom of the range one, 2x8 Microshift drivetrain, alloy frame, carbon fork. All you need really.

I bought this in the autumn and it’s been great:

I bought it mainly as a training bike, to get winter miles on, but it’s comfy and rides surprisingly well.

Some good deals out there now, without resorting to no-name Chinese stuff that may or may not be okay.

It’s a little heavier than I’m used to compared to a road bike, but that means I’ll fly once I get my proper road bike out.

Take a look at Trace Velo on YT https://www.youtube.com/c/TraceVelo

He has bought a lot of Aliexpress carbon frames (and various components) and puts them through their paces highlighing build quality issues etc. Quite a good watch.
