Hi all,

I've bought some Conti tyres from Amazon as I wanted a specific tyre, width and with cream side walls and I couldn't find them anywhere else (LBS quoted delivery in 6-8 weeks and I can't wait as the old tyre won't hold pressure)

I've heard some horror stories about fakes from amazon (LBS guy mentioned this in an email to me too) how prevalent is this really? The description is a bit dodge, it says that the tyres are tubular for example (which they won't be I assume) along with some poor grammar etc. So I wonder if this is AI generated.

The tyres are "Sold and despatched by Amazon" and I am working under the assumption that Amazon themselves wouldn't be selling counterfeit goods, even if third party sellers on the platform are.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

If I'm honest, I don't think I would be able to tell the difference myself...

If they are sold from the brand's own shop in Amazon, it would be ok I'd guess. Also, check the reviews, they would probably mention something in theory, if anyone bought them and they fell apart after a few miles

They may well be tubular ("tubs") - what model are they?

I've bought plenty of Conti GP5000s from Amazon and they've all been legit. You bike shop will be trying to put you off so you buy what they have for sale. If you buy them from Amazon then you're own your own regarding fitting and things, so there's no need for the shop to be involved in this purchase.

I've definitely had a fake Shimano chain from Amazon. I returned it as something just didnt look right with it and under closer examination it was quit different to the supposedly identical chain I was replacing. https://youtu.be/wZ0InO-teXk has a good explanation.

Don't think I've ever seen fake tyres though so hopefully you will be all good.
