I'm a little lost. I've also spelt compatibility wrong in the title...

I'm looking at a new bike, and I've found one which comes with SRAM Rival AXS. The wheels are budget ones, which isn't an issue as the plan was always to swap them out with a nice set of Fulcrum wheels I already have, with an 11 speed Shimano Hub. My question is, are they interchange, or will I need a new hub for my wheels?

Thanks in advance

Youll need an XDR hub. But you could probably get it working with a 12 speed shimano casette and KMC chain.

You can usually buy an appropriate freehub which is compatible with the wheel hub and cassette.

Will the freehub that comes with the bike fit the wheelhub on the OP's wheels?

Changing the hub would really mean you're just re-using the rim, probably easier/better to get a new wheel?

Or put a better rim on the wheel which comes with the bike?

Or can you not get a cassette which fits the freehub and has the right spacing for the gear mech?

Sram Rival 12 will be XDR, 11spd road HG will not take 12spd

Your only option will be to replace the freehub but that is if it possible to buy replacement freehubs

Fulcrum's are made be Campagnolo and spares are not the easiest

Another option is 12spd Shimano or Campag cassette and matching freehub as all 12spd is basically the same spacing

One last point is that some wheels cannot be converted as they were not designed with 12spd in mind

Thanks all. The wheels that are on the bike are basic fulcrums, so swapping the hub between them and my nice fulcrums seems like the obvious solution

I bought some secondhand carbon wheels from a friend. The freehub (the part of the hub which connects to the freehub) was not compatible with my existing group set,

You need to identify your hubs. You can then buy a new freehub for these hubs which has the correct mounting for the cassette you want to use,

There are many dimensions to get right so I’d speak to a bike shop or, even better, visit a bike shop for the part.

I’d be surprised if you can’t get the correct part.

Not going to that easy, I doubt they are the same fitment for the freehub

You can get a HG cassette that will work with SRAM 11 speed mechanical, SRAM AXS XPLR 12 speed (APEX cassette) and SRAM Eagle AXS 12 speed (NX Cassette). You do not need an XDR hub and cassette. Fulcrum wheels with a HG hub will work just fine. The only loss will be the HG cassette smallest cog is 11T vs the 10T on the XDR, so you will loose a little top end gear speed.
