Has the landscape for budget carbon wheels changed since the demise of Wiggle Chainreaction?

I got a set of Prime wheels 3 years ago for around £500 but I can’t find anything anywhere near that price these days.

Does anyone know of any decent wheels in the budget end of the market now?

Sigma sports have had Vel carbon wheels around that price, although I've just looked and they are currently a few hundred more. Very good wheels though! They do have some discounted Shimano C32 wheels around that price though.

Otherwise it's going the Chinese route (light bicycle, far sports etc.) or finding an independent wheelbuilder who can probably do something at that price point. Do Hunt have anything?

Parcours do a £750 wheelset (which I think counts as budget for a set of composite wheels). They're a pretty decent company to deal with, I had some questions when my wheelset first arrived and was going back and forth with the owner over email. I've had a warranty issue too and they've been decent to deal with regarding that.

Have a look at Zed - I've had a set of their carbon rim-brake wheels for a while now and they've been excellent.

DCR Wheels are high-quality and made in Britain. Their carbon wheels start from £780. Considering DCR's quality, that's where my money would go.

I've got a set of carbon wheels which were built in late 2018 by David at DCR. They have been faultless. Venn 50mm carbon disc rims, DT Swiss 350 hubs, Sapim CX-Ray spokes. They cost just under £900 (without tyres) back then. I've done routine re-greasing on the freehub (very easy to do with no tools needed) and they taken a beating at times including being smashed around over the cobbles of Flanders.

I bought a set of VEL ones for £450 a while back.
No doubt they'll be that again in new year sales.

Great wheels though.
