Going on a family holiday next year but plan to take a bike or hire one (which option still to be decided). Anyone ridden out there before and have recommendations for guiding companies? Have done southern Spain and Finale Liguria before so happy with more natural trails rather than bike parks

Where are you staying?

If in PDC, try Flistons. I have done a couple of tours through them with a guy called Pocho, which were very good. They also have some decent hardtails for rent (new carbon Bianchi's on my last visit earlier this year).

If Playa Blanca, I have previously (a few years ago now) used Papagayo Bike, who also had decent bikes for hire and a good guided ride.

I've spent a month or so in Lanzarote with my own mountain bike. It was great really. There are plenty of nice trails with good weather and great scenery. The wind is the only real issue.

Costa Teguise has a decent bike shop with rentals and guiding as well as group rides. It's called Planet Bikes Lanzarote.

In terms of terrain, there's loads of stuff really from relatively easy 4x4 tracks and nice fast swooping routes, to extremely gnarly difficult rocky singletrack on dodgy cliff edges. Loads of good stuff in Haria and down towards Costa Teguise. I'd advise erring on the side of caution though when it comes to trail grading on the apps. In the Uk I generally ride anything red and a fair amount of blacks. Over there, some of the reds seemed pretty deadly to me, so I'd take it easy to begin with. In particular, the terrain is not very forgiving being that it's all sharp volcanic rock rather than mud/dirt we get over here, so even technically easy routes can have high consequences if you have an off at speed.

Overall though it's a great place to get some sunny biking in over the winter months.

I've done Tenerife but definitely get a guided ride - where I rode if I fell off alone it would have been a very very long wait for a rescue laugh

Can confirm. Broke an ankle on Fuertaventura once. Self-rescue was the only realistic option.

I used the shop in Playa Blanca this summer for road hire, great guys and good kit,

Only just got back into MTB this year so hadn’t really noticed the large number of trails there are out there.

Their guided shop rides for MTB I think are Wed and Saturday, check out their IG account as they are pretty active.

Nothing to add other than we're in Lanzarote right now and there are bikes everywhere. I've been to the Canaries loads of times but this trip every drive out we see groups of bikes, on and off road.

It might be the weather though. It's nice but not too hot this time of year.

Costa Teguise So will look up the options listed. As I’ve said, have done a few trips away before with Switchwacks in Spain in Malaga and Seria Narvada and Italy with Just ride finale. Very different riding local trails to blind trails with high risk cliff edges.
