Had a ride out on holiday a few weeks ago on a road bike and would like to have a crack at some box hill routes in the next few weeks before the weather properly turns.

The thing is I don't have a road bike and I don't want one, I just want to ride one a handful of times a year.

There was a plethora of options to hire one on holiday but my first 30mins of searching in the Surrey area throws up websites and information that is years out of date and most of the options have closed down.

I know a few people on here go there regularly do you know any options?

I clicked through on that previously but they never have any road bikes available.

Actually, I looked again and they do have some gravel bikes so that could be an option - thanks!

Not knowing anything about road/gravel bikes what would you guys choose to best enable me to keep up with my roadie friends?

The hire shop has these gravel bikes:

Specialized Turbo Creo Comp E2

Specialized Crux Expert

Specialized STR Pro

I have my own pedals and shoes.

Just ride your mtb or whatever normal bike you have.

With a group of roadie friends who are keen on pressing on?

You have more faith in my ability than I do laugh

Surely one of your roadie friends has a spare bike?

Nothing decent.

I am keen on trying out a decent bike with electronic shifting on a proper ride.

I live locally and I’d be surprised if you can find a bike with electronic shifting for hire. Have you tried the shop in Boxhill yet? Might be worth a punt.

They have a few options at https://just-pedal.com/bikehire/ as detailed above:

It is even possible to hire an S-Works SL8 Di2 for 60 pound a day although it does seem to be unavailable at the moment.
