Anyone have any suggestions? Looking for something to upgrade standard wheels supplied with Merida gravel bike which shouldn't be hard, I gather they are quite heavy and very narrow internal width by modern gravel standards (17mm) looking for something in the 20's, a bit lighter that are on the cheaper end of the scale.

I picked up a set of Prime Attaquer that I use on my gravel/cross bike.

21mm internal, nice sounding hubs and around 1500g

I got them for a bargain second hand and I have zero complaints.

I don't know if you can by them new, but you'll get them used for sub £300

Hunt ? I’ve got a couple of pairs & have had no issues (MTB & some lightweight road wheels). Plenty of pals have them too & all seem to rate them.

I've just purchased a new DT Swiss front wheel for my hardtail from this lot (after running over it in the car furious).

Great service and cheaper than anywhere else.

I've used them too as they are local to me, great service. I got a pair of Hope hubs with DT Swiss rims for my CX/gravel bike. They look great and ride really nicely.

Would opt for wheels using well-known off the shelf parts rather than proprietary, much easier to get spares when you break a spoke or need a new freehub etc.

I have set of DT Swiss GR1600 which have an inner width of 24mm. They're around £400 ish from memory ... a solid set of wheels, not the lightest.

I have a pair of these. Guy is local and super knowledgeable and could talk about wheels and tyres for days. They've been absolutely bulletproof so far and have had a couple of CX races chucked at them as well as all my winter riding...Much more than can be said for the pair of Hunt 4 seasons I had.

I've got two sets of Mavic Allroad SL on my Gravel Bike (different tyres on each). 22mm rim width, can take tyres over 50mm (I run 47s on one set, 45s on the other).

After a lot of abuse they are still faultless.

I wouldn’t buy anything with alloy nipples myself, which rules out most of the ones suggested, especially if they are for off-road use.

Agree with the Mavic Allroad SL, similarly I have two sets, semi slick for light gravel, and 45mm for touring and heavier gravel. Tubeless works fine with them, had them 3 years, 1000’s of miles on them. Only changed 2 bearings, near side on both rear wheels.

Brilliant wheel sets

Although if you want the absolute crème try Roval Terra CLX’s.

Are the Mavics hookless? Not sure how I feel about that?

My OPEN runs ENVE ses 3.4 with industry nine hubs. Zero issue with weight limits on these wheels if that is a factor.

My ENVE MOG runs Chris King wheels and hubs, handling wise they feel the same, have taken lots of abuse, what I prefer the most though is the very quiet rear hub.

For the kind of riding I do, I'm not really chasing watts so I didn't notice a difference speed wise running deeper wheels on my OPEN vs the ENVE.

Those look nice, I think they are a bit out of budget though!

Mavic Allroads, used them on three different bikes now, maybe not the lightest but strong and run really well.

1000s of miles here on Hunt 4 season gravel rims. Including a few "glorious gravel" events which are basically mountain bike routes for parts. They've never missed a beat, still going strong.

If you're running tubeless then hookless isn't a worry. Big tyres low pressures etc. Zipp 303S for £850.

Parcours Alta 650b with dynamo for me. Went 650b for when I'm running with the panniers etc and the bike is heavy, run bigger tyres for better cushioning. Also the Alta has straight pull spokes, so if I break a spoke I can fit a new one without needing to remove the cassette. Depends what you are doing but some of my off road rides are where there's no mobile signal and every little thing like that can help.
Parcours customer service was better than Hunt too when buying the wheels.

I’ve an unused set of 700c Hunt 4 Season Gravel wheels that came on my new bike. I wanted 650b, so these are no use to me. £350ish including Vittoria Terreno tyres if you fancy them.
