Hi all, after a little advice from people in regards to using GPS Spot trackers for events.

Last year, I rented a Spot 3 for an event. For some reason though, although I showed up on the Mapprogress page, my GPS spot just remained at the start on the map and didn't progress. It was pretty annoying and made me feel like I wasn't actually in the race.

So this year, I'm going to do the event again and would like to ensure it all works. I've noticed that I can almost buy a tracker for the same price that I rented one last year. I will just also have to pay a single monthly fee for the tracking when I need it. But is there a specific device I should look at getting or avoiding?

I had been told the Spot Gen 3 trackers are pretty flawless, but my own experience has put me off this one. Should I just bite the bullet and go for one of the Garmin inreach models?
