Advice please, I’ve just pulled my wife ‘s bike out of the shed, it’s not been used for 2-3 years, the brakes were binding (Avid Juicy 2 SL).
I’ve pulled the front caliper off and got one piston moving but the other won’t pump out on the lever.
I’m well out of touch with this sort of thing, is it worth stripping the calipers or have things moved on / got so cheap it’s better to replace them?

Old Avid hydraulics are notorious for eating their seals and Juicys for sticking pistons that are a bugger to free.

The service kits aren't all that expensive (about £15 each end from memory), but unless you're keen to do the work yourself it would probably be cheaper to replace the brakes.

When the Avid Elixirs gave up on my 2010 Stumpy I replaced them with Shimano M525s, which are cheap as chips and better than the Avids (though a bit budget to look at).

Just remember that Sram / Avid is DOT brake fluid and Shimano is mineral they do not mix and match

It'd be cheaper and easier to replace them with a set of basic clarks hydraulics or similar
