Advice please, I’ve just pulled my wife ‘s bike out of the shed, it’s not been used for 2-3 years, the brakes were binding (Avid Juicy 2 SL).
I’ve pulled the front caliper off and got one piston moving but the other won’t pump out on the lever.
I’m well out of touch with this sort of thing, is it worth stripping the calipers or have things moved on / got so cheap it’s better to replace them?

If the one piston is stuck, see if you can use pliers or something similar to stop the working piston from moving, and the stuck piston will eventually move. I'd not replace them for that, but depends how handy you are. If a piston pops out completely it can be a mare getting it back in for some calipers, no idea about yours, but watch out for it going to far.

I have a set of Avid Juicy brakes with levers sitting in my garage. I'll never use them but think they're too good to throw away.

If you'd like to message me your address I'll pack them up and put them in the post to you FOC

Avid juicy haven’t been sold for a number of years so would have though they are pretty old (10 years maybe). They were never renowned for being great so would say in this instance just buy new.

Thanks for the offer, very kind, I’ll have a go at shifting the other piston first, if I’m struggling I’ll take you up on thatsmile

I used to run Juicy 5's on my downhill and freeride bikes and loved them. Later ran XO's on my original Nukeproof Mega and they were just as good, better than anything I've tried that Sram are currently putting out...
