MTB for 10 year old kid
Discussion
Hi all,
My 10 year old son has a Cube Acid 20” MTB that he’s now outgrown. I’m looking to get him a new MTB with the following spec:
Front Suspension
Disc brakes
Single front chainring
Budget is around £500. There is a Frog 26” that meets our specification but it’s £750. Does anyone know of any cheaper alternatives?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Age is largely irrelevant. Height and weight is a better metric.
Look second hand - try pink bike.

We bought my son a canyon ‘grand canyon’ in size xxs. It’s sized for kids but has 27.5 inch wheels and deore kit. Excellent quality and good for upgrading a he grows. My 10 year old son has a Cube Acid 20” MTB that he’s now outgrown. I’m looking to get him a new MTB with the following spec:

Vitus were great for this before Wiggle/CRC collapsed.

+1 for the Whyte 403.
My 9yr old tall son outgrew his Frog 69, his knee's were too close to the handlebars and he complained of backache on longer rides. The Whyte is a good fit and should see him through the next 3-4 years. I paid ~£375 second hand for a well looked after model.
I use my e-bike to tow him up our local bike park and he enjoys the downhill. The geometry is very different to the Frog and is more suited to stability at speed over bumps.

Hi OP
My son used a scaled-down Orange Five from the age of 12 until about 17. It has a women’s frame and the smallest swingarm they made. The original owner built it for his 5’2” wife.
He’s now grown out of it so I’m open to offers. If you’re interested I’ll send over some photos.

As said the vitus bikes from cr would have been perfect.
My little boy is 6 and he's just recently moved to a 24" wheel Vitus Nucleus and thus far, very happy with it. I'm quite surprised what a huge difference decent brakes make to his progression... or I can't remember back far enough to my V brake days. He's desperate for full suspension now though. And an electric motor. Good recommendations from those in previous posts. Both by children have Whyte 405 bikes - when they were blue in colour. They've both outgrown them now but looking round, I'm struggling to find a comparative when going up to a 27.5 wheelbase. The 12yr old has clocked on to the 909's - no chance!!
Check out Canyon - they always have good children’s bikes.
These are the analogue bikes my son rides now: Neuron Young Hero (Dual Suspension) and Grand Canyon Young Hero (Hard Tail) - (Age 11-12)

Prior to this he had an Orange Zest (Age 9-11)

You may find that 24" is actually too small and decent spec bikes are somewhat lacking if he wants a proper hardtail. 26" with the correct frame size may well be better. I know you're moving towards new but if you are after a 405 then I have two that I need to move on. Or, look new to see If you can find one.
PM me if interested.
