Currently I have a triban rc100(decathlon) it's a very cheap road bike with slightly wider tyres, 32's
Alu frame and forks with v brakes and £250

The grvl 120 is not too far removed but has better gearing, disc brakes and carbon forks and is £599

This would be a cycle scheme purchase, not really interested in paying any motas my zzr11 was only £800 and I not spending more than I paid for that.

That’s actually a very fit for purpose bike at that money so I would say get it bought. Only issue I can potentially see is that I think the brakes use a single one sided piston rather than a twin piston set-up like the TRP Sypres I had on my gravel bike, but you can always upgrade them later if you feel the braking performance is lacking. It’s an easy and relatively cheap upgrade if you pick up second hand Spyres, or like me you could fit a pair of cable actuated hydraulic callipers like the TRP HY/RD’s fitted to the Triban 520 (other makes are available), but for the money it looks pretty decent. I like the Microshift 10sp stuff too as my son has a similar set-up on his MTB and it has been faultless.

Depends what you expect to do with it.
For winter rides you might want more mudguard space?
Not sure how tough those rims will be?

As you've already got something in the same vein, you should know whether the gear ratios are good for you.

Unfortunately, upgrading to proper hydraulic brakes is expensive.

Since fettling the canti brakes on my drop bar bike properly, I don't find myself wishing I had discs like I used to on every hill!

In theory I should be collecting today, I went in and tried one decided that the medium was better than the small for me.
The levers had to be swapped as it's french, no problem should be about a week as they had no tape in stock, ended up taking tape in on Friday myself

Hmmm its not bad but I'd have paid £150 more and gone for the Boardman ADV8.6 for £750.

The ADV is tried and tested and well regarded by many riders, even the cheaper 8.6 with the crappy cable disc brakes.
The Boardman has Shimano group set vs unbranded on the decathlon?
The main one though, looking at the pics it looks like the decathlon bike doesn't have a rear mech hanger, if you crash or hit a big ass rock, there's a risk you destroy the rear mech and/or damage the frame.

PS - If you get the Boardman just don't let Halfords or Tredz build it biggrin, or check it over if they do.

I collected it today, as it's piddling down I've transferred it from the car to the garage

Halfords were out as they have their own cycle to work scheme, my employer uses a different one
