Hi guys,

Im fairly new to bicycles so could do with some advice.

Starting from this morning my bicycle has an issue that feels like the chain slips, or as though it tries to change gear before going back again.

Ive chased it down to the master link in the chain, which has possible stretched? As i can visually see this specific chain link ride up onto the top of the tooth of the sprocket before it eventually drops down into the groove.

The bike is a brand new Kona Dew-E (bought from a shop's closing down sale, so no easy chance of warrenty work)

Finally, if i need to replace the chain, which should i go for to ensure this doesn't happen again? Google suggest my bike currently has a "KMC X9". The bike is an E-bike with mid drive motor, so i presume more torque than a conventional chain?

Sounds like a stiff link. Try wiggling it sideways a few times to put pressure on the stiff link.

How many miles have you put on the bike?
Could just be chain wear, it is good practice to change them fairly often anyway as it reduces cassette wear, especially on an E

Depending on the exact type of chain, it is possible that the chain link is installed upside down. That should be obvious if it is non-symmetrical and has a flat or flatter side.

Thanks guys, im fairly sure its not a stiff link as it happens more when its under load than when im peddling lightly.

The bike has 500kms.

Ill have a look to see if the link is upside down

Looking online the KMC also offer an E9 chain designed for electric bikes, so my X9 is the lower spec one, installed on an E bike.

Thank you
