hi all, thinking of selling my vauxhall vivaro van as tax is once again going up along with insurance, fed up of the costs so thinking of selling up and picking up a cheap lower tax car, what would you suggest to look for around the 3k mark, ideally a really really cheap tax, but up to 150ish a year would be ok...my vans going up to almost 400 and im fed up of giving the government money lol.

I’ve heard the Skoda Roomster is decent for moving bikes albeit not the best looking car!

The 1.6 diesel is £150 tax too.

Seat Altea XLs are quite cheap to buy now and some of the 1600 diesels are only £35 to tax.

Great load carrier - we've got one - but not great for modern mountain bikes, even with seats out the load bay is a bit shorter than ideal.

Just get a Hyundai i800 2.5 CRDI there huge , it's basically the Hyundai lload van with a few windows only £180 to tax and cheap insurance , I use mine as a camper van , fishing trips to France , and transporting motorbikes for track days, easy fits 2 fireblades.

Genuinely brilliant for bikes the Roomster. Had one as a company car for 6 months. They used to, maybe still do sell a bar that goes across the luggage tie down points that the wheels bolted to, so only had to remove front wheel to go in securely.

A bit higher on the tax front at £240 but I have an SMAX. I bought bought it virtually new in 2009 and still have it because quite frankly, its brilliant. With the seats down i can fit an Enduro 29er in without removing the wheels. Its perfect for tip runs etc. it's my van. it also drives pretty well
