Horrible, hope he regains full health.

Whichever journo forced him to go public (if indeed that’s what forced it) should be publicly named and never work in media again. Ditto for any editor supporting the behaviour. Low lives.

Absolutely this. I assume somebody spotted him leaving Christies (guess - he's Manchester based) and he was left with no choice than to make a statement. Absolutely abhorrent behaviour.

Totally agree, it's his choice and he should have been free to make it. I hope someone digs out who this journalist and rag or media outlet is and it backfires on them

Wishing the very best to Sir Chris, seems a top bloke..

Real st trick by the journo, scum of the earth.

Sir Chris is such a decent guy, he comes into my LBS/coffee shop quite a bit, and did likewise with another similar one nearby that closed last year. Always happy to chat, down to earth, very genuine.

Last time we saw him, late autumn-time I'm guessing, he mentioned he was 'getting over something' - we naively assumed covid or a cold.

Yeah, sickener... 2-4 years left to live.

Given you can be the peak of human fitness and suffer this fate, very sobering.

Really sad news but his attitude is equally amazing. He is 100% right we all die, it's the way nature works, but most of us wouldn't achieve 10% of what his done, nor have his work ethic/attitude to life. In a world of madness he shows us how amazing humans can be!!

Always seems like a really nice guy to go along with the superhuman talent.

Very sad.

Commented on his prior cancer diagnosis and nothing more heard since whilst watching the cycling championships on TV, and my wife added, “He looks really well.”
Later we saw the news and learned it’s terminal. His wife’s battling MS, too.
Awful news.

I dont normally post in these kind of threads, and I cant post on the thread in NPE

I met him once at the NEC at the Cycle Show some years back, he was an absolute gent, he was signing autographs on the SIS stand and took a few minutes to ask why we were there and what we were doing and what our interest in cycling was, I was with a group of friends and we were taking time out for training for a 500 mile cycle charity ride. He never once talked about himself or his achievements he was far more interested in us as people and what we were doing. He wished us luck with our ride, and we had a little chuckle as one of our group was wearing a Nissan GTR Logo'd jacket and he saw it and we said "oh awkward" as he'd crashed one at Goodwood FoS and he had a little joke with us about it.

I've just lost my Dad to prostate cancer so this hits very close to home. Very sobering and hope Sir Chris gets to make the most of how ever much time he has left to spend it with his family and friends, a lovely man.

That’s a big shame. It’s terminal stage 4 as well, it’s spread all over his system, and is in his bones. If he makes it another year, I’d be amazed. He’s a top bloke too, really nice, always willing to chat if he’s about. I did a Zwift ride with him a couple of weeks ago, he was quite happy to chat with everyone who wanted to. Aw bugger frown

I found out recently and also shocked. A man or woman couldn't be any fitter. Not sure thats relevant but just sobering thought as probably similar age to myself. Keeps popping into my head while I'm just doing stuff day to day.
