Santa Cruz Megatower, Nomad or short.. 5010?
Discussion
I've not ridden Santa Cruz for years and I've owned Bullits, Hecklers Blur4x etc etc probably over 10yrs ago now!
Any current or recent owners?
Needs to be lightish but can do anything and I'll be building up from frame only.
One thing I'm not a fan of is ultra slack headtubes though as I don't like the flip flop front feel.

I have owned a Blur V3, Tallboy and now a new Blur V4.
I want a light bike for climbs and trails and Blur's are just the thing for me, the Tallboy was great but a bit heavy for me.
There is a really good review on youtube showing how capable the Blur is.

If you want something a bit more down country the Tallboy is worth a look.
There are some good deals on 2023 models that they are clearing out.

depends what you want to do with it or where you ride...
head angles arent too slack. dont really notice flip flopping with current geo as the front is longer anyway.
5010 is fun but could be underbiked.
The other two comes down to wanting full 29 or mullet. I quite like the mullet, purely due to not hitting my arse on the wheel so often

Where'd you ride? London based? so assume Surrey Hills?
Based on your do it all requirement go Megatower. I nearly bought one last year but went with a Spesh Enduro instead and put the travel to 180mm.
It'll be a 'big' bike, so will ride like s
t at somewhere like Twisted Oaks. I wouldn't want to use it for XC.
Be fine/fun for Peaslake/Winterfold. Be right at home in Redlands, Surrey Hills.
Be fine for Dyfi, BPW, Windhill.

Used to- I've never changed my profile. Peaks, Calderdale, Lakes etc.
I read a comment recently- buy what you ride not what you aspire to.
So for me anything over 150/160 would be a waste!
In that case a Tallboy is perfect. It’s not as light as it should be but it climbs well and the geometry is bang on what you are looking for. I run a 140mm Pike Ultimate in mine and I think a 130mm might suit you better. It’ll do everything that you want.I read a comment recently- buy what you ride not what you aspire to.

The Blur is also extremely capable and is seriously light whilst maintaining that SC frame stiffness that the brand is famous for. It does climb very much faster than the TB but that’s mostly down to about a 2.5kg weight difference in the build spec

Owned a lot of the same bikes waaay back and weirdly, its those that put me off Santa Cruz ownership, especially the Blur 4X which I seemed to be changing bearings on every few months and the Heckler which just felt like it was cracked it was so "floppy".Switched to riding Oranges and never looked back.
