Best way to sell high spec bike

I want/need to sell my Cervelo P3 Ultegra DI2. I have tried Cycle Exchange and another place but it falls outside their <5 year rule as its a 2017.

I guess its ebay then. How is it best to price it? A buy it now price, or a risk it with a £0 opening bid. Im worried if I go the bid route that there isnt much interest and it sells for a stupidly low amount. Its a 61cm frame so the audience is going to be limited. Im not looking for stupid amounts. Looking at similar that have sold then somewhere in the £1500-£1800 range would be reasonable I think. Which is a way off what it cost me.

Then if I do sell what is the best way of doing the transaction? Collection only, and they pay by PayPal ? Do they pay before they arrive?

Been years since I sold anything on Ebay and never anything that valuable. Dont want to get scammed.

Don’t use PayPal for collection items, you have no ‘proof of postage’ so could be vulnerable if they do a charge back as you can’t prove they have it.

You could try TimeTriallingForum and there must be a triathlon forum to post on too.

There are a number of relevant groups on FB you could post it in too, you just have to sift through the scammers.

I tried them. They were pretty hoesnt and said right now ots the wrong time of year and they don't want to hold TT bike over winter. But he also said they would be reticent offering on a 61cm frame as the resale market would be pretty narrow.

Where would you look if you wanted one?

Some of the Facebook buy and sell groups are OK, but I do know a few people who have separate FB 'personalities' for that sort of thing.

If you list it on ebay for a start price you would accept, or a 'buy it now', serious buyers will get in touch.
I would not auction it personally, I've been looking for a nicer bike and seen a lot fail to sell recently.
XL is a small market.

Have you thought of selling the components individually? I’m afraid I don’t know much about road bikes, but if it’s the frame size that’s narrowing your market you might be better off selling in bits. (this is reasonably common with MTB’s)

I know someone who managed to sell their small TT bike eventually on eBay via a buy it now with best offer.
Put it up for above the minimum price you will take, and then be prepared to accept offers (you have to turn this on). It will auto renew every 30 days

eBay take about 12%

If you insist on cash on collection you limit your market. However eBay now protect you for card.payments.
They take the card payment and give them a collection code.
When they collect it, make them give you the code and you put it into eBay. If you use your phone, you can scan the code on their screen.

Find a Triathlon FB group in your country. Here in Australia, there is a very healthy FB group marketplace for just about every kind of bike. I've bought and sold multiple bikes over $10K in value and never had any issues.

Depending on the buyer, it's normal that they can't take the bike until a bank transfer has cleared. Normally around 24hr's over here for anything over $1k.

Given its a TT bike, I'd try timetrialling forum - you'll be perhaps surprised to hear that a 7 year old bike is not high end now, and won't probably be even worth selling if there is even the slightest thought you may get back into it one day. I've got a Speed Concept I've not touched since its last outing (and win ;-) ) now 6 years ago. It was worth fk all then, and now I'd probably be paying them.

The fact you didn't know about the TT forum means I guess you were doing triathlon, one imagines they have forums for that too?

I know about the Timetrial forum. I tried to sell it on there a while back and got strung along for ages but some time wasting bellend. Might give it another go.

I know.its no long high end and has those bloody rim brakes from when Jesus was a boy. It cost me about 6k to build . Would be happy with a little over a grand.

It's hung on my office wall for the last 5 years. I would hang on to it, but recently life events mean I could do with the money

I recently sold my TT setup (Speed Concept, DI2, race wheels and spares) via one of the TT Facebook groups and it was absolutely seamless. Obviously do your due diligence on who your selling too but it was very easy. I took a non-refundable £60 deposit and dropped it off to the chaps house. It was priced pretty aggressively to help but I think a lot of people, especially with TT bikes, are dreaming with the market as it is at the moment
