Hi

I’m looking for some clear glasses for riding on road at night.

Intrigued by the Oakley Sutro ones which appear to allow light in at different levels depending on the surrounding environment.

Anyone got a pair of these and can comment?

I already have a pair of custom Sutro for proper bright daylight riding.

Thanks

I've got a pair of Oakley Flax 2.0XL with Oakley photochromic lens in. They are always just right, so much so I wear them all year round day and night when on the bike.

I have a pair of Tifosi photochromic and think they are great. Ideal for mixed weather days or if you are heading out early so want clear lenses but not have to change glasses or lenses once the sun is up.

Rudy Project are also very good, totally clear for night riding and a decent bronze in the sun. Got mine online (RX Sport or similar) in prescription, which is excellent.

I’ve got Nikon transition lenses in my day to day specs and love them, don’t notice them changing but they go quite dark and are perfectly clear in low light. They don’t have the yellow tinge that transitions lenses used to have.

Would also recommend Optilabs sunglasses. Direct glazed sunglasses to your prescription so they can account for astigmatism etc. I’ve got transitions drivewear lenses in those which have a yellow green tint to enhance contrast and are polarised to reduce glare.

I've bought some photochromic Jawbreakers a month ago, I can confirm so far is they are completely clear in the dark, not seen much sunlight in them yet!

I’ve got photochromic Jawbreakers too. They work so well in all conditions that I don’t really bother swapping to the fancy looking reflective lenses any more.

Can't comment on the pair you've mentioned, but I have a pair of Oakley Radar EV's which are photochromic, and they are excellent. Once you have a decent set of photochromic lenses you don't really need anything else. Good in all weather conditions and light and just massively convenient. All your other sunglasses will go to the back of the cupboard. They are a worthwhile investment.

Excellent-thanks all. I was worried about the ability of the lens to return to clear at night but it seems this won’t be an issue.

I am minimal in most aspects of life but it seems cycling has its own rules for me beer

For that use I think photochromic lenses should be good.

I tried some for MTB for a while, but they didn't adapt quickly enough for trails cutting in and out of trees etc - they took a few minutes to adjust.

I picked up some photochromic from Lidl - £6.99. Check your local middle aisle as they might still have some. Worth trying out before shelling out big money on Oakleys.

I like mine a lot, and no need to be precious about them. Work really well - i use mine daytime and nighttime.
