Has anyone seen or tried an Ergon TP1 Pedal Cleat Tool (more affordable) or Bike Energy Lab's Cleat Key (pricier) for more accurate and replicable cleat positioning?

I have the ergon cleat tool.

It's pretty difficult to use because the edges of cycling shoes are so rounded, so you can't actually determine where the shoe falls on the grid system.

I'm not sure it got me any closer when changing cleats, then just eyeballing and using a sharpie/masking tape has.

Thank goodness. I didn't want to be the first into the confessional. I own both. Neither is as accurate or as confidence-inspiring as the perimeter of grime around the old cleat.

Where you don’t have an old cleat to mark and replace, I have used the Ergon tool and think it worked really well to set up the cleat positioning.

My cleats are all shimmed, so the mark on the sole isn't very helpful; I find the Ergon tool is pretty straightforward for replacements, but requires a bit of patience with new shoes.
