Checked the tyres today after a week of wet commuting with lots of traveling through leaf covered cycle paths - Looks like I got away with a pretty fatal puncture at some point, the cut is through the rubber, canvas on show clearly behind the cut. 28mm specialized OEM tyre, less than 1000 miles on them.

I think its probably time for a set of new rubber, I've never seen anyone 'fix' cuts in pedal bike tires unlike on cars?

Will probably got wider with more gravel orientated set as the bike is really a gravel bike (I know there is a few threads on the topic already). smile.

Looks like a Specialized tyre, which tend to be notorious for sidewall cuts.

I'd bin that tyre, don't think you'll have any success patching it.

I'd not want to ride far on that one and it'd be binning (another yorkshireman here..)

Struggling to reconcile the mileage and tyre condition. The remaining tread on the side is all cracking, it appears to be a very old tyre. I've used Panaracer on the commuter for years in the inclement months, and easily see 4k out of a tyre.

I’ve managed to crack the life out of sidewalls as bad as that in a couple of rides by running the pressures too low (by a considerable margin in hindsight).

There are no others cracks, it's the 'magic' of computational photography on a smart phone smile.

Have just fitted this, was very tempted to go for a 35mm+ tire but couldn't face having the 'nice' bike running wider tires than the commuter. Looking at the weather report tomorrow I think I'll be taking the 20kg+ commuter eBike with mudguards and the bomb proof Marathon tires out. So will have to wait till Friday to try out how the Panaracer feels.
