I have one of these,

https://www.trekbikes.com/gb/en_GB/bikes/road-bike...

Its making a noise that sounds "spokey" in nature, kind of like when the spokes tap the derailleur if not asjusted right but it isnt and dont seem to have any loose ones.

Any suggestions ?

Are your brake rotors running true and not catching the pads at some point?

I have a noise that sounds similar to what you have described if I am understanding you in the same way that you mean.

I think mine is the valve stem tapping the edge of the hole in the rim following a recent tube change.

Gear cable not cut short enough so that in certain gears it catches the spokes?

I had a spokey sounding wheel on a Trek, my dad had a very similar wheel which was silent. It looked like mine had been rebuilt at some point with a different arrangement of direction of the spoke heads and how the spokes crossed over each other.

I solved it by snapping a couple of spokes and the aluminium nipples crumbling when I breathed on them.

Will get it on my stand and have s proper look, bike hasnt really had any maintenance as yet since new, cant see anything obvious. Just one tube replacement.

It one of those things that makes you feel uneasy, getting out of the pedals, descending at speed if you have a noise there as you are always wondering if its something on its way out.

I've just had a flash back to the 80s and spokey dokies.

I had something similar, exactly like a spoke getting very very slightly caught., but only in the top 3 or 4 rings of the cassette. It was on a 6mth old £15k custom build...so I was able to get the build mechanic to take a proper look.

He stripped it down, then rebuilt to no success, he systematically tried component after component, all with no joy.

He got a new dura-ace 9200 cassette on warranty, still there. New chain. Still there....he then tried swapping the cassette for his own Ultegra 8170 cassette and it was silent. So he ordered a brand new Ultegra 8170 cassette and it remained silent.

He even got a Shimano mechanic in to look to explain why. He couldn't.

Sometimes things are just magic.

That doesn't help you much ;-) .....but the Shimano mechanic said when he gets that nice, 9/10 times it is front ring alignment, try putting a tiny spacer in on the drive side between BB & crank.

I had a look, and I think its the disks, they arent the usual torx type fastener, they look like they were pressed on at the factory and dont look removable without drilling the rivets out.

When I tap the disks they dont seem fully tight against the hub, not much movement but enough to allow a tiny bit of movement and make a noise.

Not 100 percent its that but its pretty close and would make sense, couldnt find anything else.

Discs will be centre lock, usually use a BB or cassette tool to spin the lock ring on/off

Yours look to use a cassette tool....

The disks (the braking part) may be designed to float slightly on the carrier (the centre section that is attached to the wheel).

Does the noise disappear if the brakes are applied slightly?
