He was in the right... but you can be right and still end up in the cemetery.

The more time I spend on the bike (especially when commuting in the City) the more I try to remember to focus on trying to avoid problems, rather than Strava times or getting annoyed by drivers.

I like to think I would have spotted this as a vehicle that should be given a very wide berth and hence not been in that spot.

Whatever you think of vine (I'm not a fan), that truck driver has massively fked up. Not sure why Vine decided to get behind the lorry having witnessed it's bad driving, but either way the Truck driver reversed over a bike in the middle of the road.

I'm sure this will turn into a Vine/biking slanging match.

That is a fine example of why I definitely wouldn't want to ride a bicycle in this day and age for sure. I used to enjoy riding on the road about 30 years ago, but there is absolutely no chance that I would do it now though. The driving standards of folk nowadays is diabolical, and I'd just expect to get knocked off really.

Although I did get knocked off my pushbike as a kid though by a car(god knows how he didn't see me at the time), so I guess that there has always been ste drivers to be fair.

Riding around London is great IMO, and unless you've got no common sense and are a clueless accident magnet like Vine you'll be fine. It's the best way to get about.

The truck driver did something stupid - But the Jeremy Vine did something stoopider......

Regardless of how the truck got into that position (and he turned across with plenty of room in front, so it's not like he nearly wiped him out with this initial turn), JV should NEVER have put himself behind (and so close to) the truck. - That was really really dumb.

The defensive cyclist in me would have stopped way short of the truck (preferably short of the box junction) and waited to see what the truck did next.

If you put yourself in dangerous positions, expect dangerous things to happen.

But as we all know - he does it for clicks - I cycle loads round Cambridge and almost never have an issue like he does, but that's because I ride defensively and avoid conflict whereas he goes looking for it.

I'm not suggesting that he staged it, but he could easily have avoided what happened by using some common sense.

Could easily have just slowed down more and ridden past making it a total non issue. Yes its annoying when cars / vans cross your path making you brake but in this case there was plenty of reaction time. No idea why you'd bother stopping in that instance either, especially right behind the truck

There's not really much else to add really.

Van driver in the wrong, cyclist nearly stops behind him, driver realises mistake and tries to rectify. I commute by bike in London, seems an odd accident to occur.

Vine really does seem to have the most extraordinary run of bad luck when he’s out on his bike.

I’m sure he’s never at fault which is why he videos all his near misses to prove it, but say he was an airline pilot and I was cabin crew I’d ring in sick if his name popped up on my work roster.

He didn’t stop behind the van, it hit him pulled his bike out from under him, air horn to impact about half a second.

And damn right I’d try and stop my £3k bike getting crushed.

I don’t like the guy but this is 100% on the van driver and some of you have similar observation skills.

I can't help thinking it's an attention grabbing stunt by the massive worm Vine . Even if I am wrong it's the boy crying wolf .
I detest the little sh#t so that may make my view bias.

It was a dumb dumb move on JV’s part. Any sensible cyclist would not put themselves that close to the back of a van that obviously now needs to reverse.

The man has a death wish.

He saw a driver make a mistake and stop. Pretty obvious they will reverse out of the situation.

Option A: shake your head and continue on your way, like every other time you see a motorist do some dumb st

Option B: slow down right behind the vehicle so you can pan the camera around for the rear numberplate incase your camera missed the front, you’ll need it to st stir and grandstand about their driving later on Twitter, get reversed over

I’m not for a second defending the van driver, but Vine constantly agitates and exacerbates situations like this.

He’s like half the folk on YouTube with dash cameras who see someone going for a bit of a small gap at a roundabout, but instead of easing off the gas and muttering “tt,” they accelerate straight at them before simultaneously jamming on the brakes and horn.

He is a complete prick- the whole thing was totally avoidable but he goes out of his way to make it an issue.

There was no reason for him to stop. Swerve round and on your way. No click bait doing that though.

Some people aren't fit to be on a bike and he's one of them. Not because he can't physically ride one but because he's not mentally equipped to be on one.

Had that occurred in-front of me my reaction would have been to mutter "oops, lol" and swiftly pedal by chuckling to myself. Vine however decides to stop behind it, putting himself in a stupid position, all because of what he has strapped to his head.

Either only certain types strap cameras to themselves or strapping a camera to yourself turns you into a certain type.
